Facing Goliath
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Psalms 8:4 NIV
The Lord knows you are facing Goliath. Staring down a defiant enemy with faithfulness and courage. He sees the sweat on your brow. The rapid beat of your heart. You wonder, “Am I in over my head?” “Did I pick the wrong battle?” “Was I too eager to join this fight?” Do not be afraid! God has called you to challenge the demonic powers of darkness and evil schemes of the enemy that try to terrorize His people.
Jesus has called YOU. He knows you aren’t qualified. He knows you weren’t invited by man to face this foe. Your expertise was not requested. No one said, “Oh! You know who we should call…[insert your name].” But here you are, facing Goliath because Jesus called your name. You might be unsure of yourself, but you are confident in Christ.
Today, I want to tell you the Lord your God sees you. He sees your humble offering of faithfulness even when you’re weary. Each day you rise out of bed and choose to trust Him with the outcome of your efforts—He sees you. Each day you fight traffic to get to a job you don’t love to provide for your family. He sees you. You keep showing up to pursue another stranger because you believe their life matters. You’ve given your fourth eulogy this year for another child whose life was cut short by gun violence. He sees you. Although you carry your own ache and loneliness, you still gather together the widows in your community. You faithfully lead your team even though you question your effectiveness and skill. He sees you. Pouring your heart out prophetically on a canvas believing God can move mountains with a paintbrush. He sees you. With skill and precision, you steward abundance, file reports, and hold the people you shepherd accountable so they can continue dreaming and co-creating with God. He sees you. Getting on your knees yet again to cry out that same prayer, “Lord remember me…” still trusting that although the promise delays, He heard you before and hears you now.
Today, I want to tell you that Jesus sees you, and He is with you as you stare down giants twice your size. As you refuse to turn back. He is mindful of you. Your conquering king is proud of you. The choice to stand in defiant faith does not make sense to many. The odds look stacked against you. But you press forward with sounds of victory, hidden in the one who subdues your enemies.
With you on the journey,
Gabrielle Leonard
